What is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner?
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) are advanced practice nurses specializing in mental health care services. They provide many of the same mental health care services as physicians or psychiatrists, such as, diagnosing mental health conditions, providing therapy to treat mental health conditions, prescribing medication to treat severe mental illness, educating patients and their families about mental health challenges and available treatment plans, and collaborating with other health care providers to deliver well-rounded care to patients.
Are Sessions Confidential?
The Code of Ethics of the American Psychiatric Association safeguards the confidentiality of provider-client relationship. Generally, content of sessions are not revealed to anyone else without your specific permission. However, Maryland law requires us to reveal information we believe may result in physical harm or death of any individual.
How Is My Privacy Protected?
We ensure your confidentiality is always respected in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) which aims to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge.
What If I Experience An Emergency?
In the event of an emergency, please call crisis hotline 211 or 1-800-273-8255 (National Suicide Prevention Lifeline), dial 911, or go to the nearest ER.
What if I miss an Appointment?
Once we make an appointment, we set aside time for your use. Hence, cancellations/reschedules require a 48-hour advance notice to avoid a $50 charge.
